Movie Review with Spoilers
Warning: This review has MAJOR spoilers. Do not proceed without having seen the movie first. (Read at your own risk)
As I was writing my previous spoiler-free review, I was STRUGGLING not to spoil things in the movie. I wanted so bad to talk about everything until I realized. You know what I can!
Welcome to the Spoiler-Full Movie review. As stated above, spoilers ahead.
I can't believe Iron man came back in the end!...
jk. god I wish he did though. Ok for realsies, everyone who hasn't seen the movie look away.
Here it goes:
I loved this movie so much. Spider-Man is my FAVORITE MCU character. I was so shocked at the end of Far from Home when everyone found out his identity. I was like "wait...no...why do i have to wait to find out what happens!" Waiting was killing me and then when they announced the next one I got so excited.
The story starts off literally right after the 2nd movie (which i love by the way). It makes it a nice transition from oh my gosh it's happening to a crazy sequence. I felt bad for Happy Hogan when Aunt May broke up with him but it was a funny dialogue between the two. As the movie goes on you get to see why having a secret identity is super important for super heros, especially when you get framed for a murder. I still can't believe how many supporters Mystero gained during his short time in the universe but people really turned on Peter which was sad to see. He went from Friendly neighborhood spider-Man to most famous murderer/menace to society.
I liked the scenes between Peter and MJ. We got to see a little bit of the two of them in the 2nd movie but this movie really explorers their cute new relationship. And Ned third wheeling everywhere is just as awesome as it sounds.
The film explorers the struggles with an outed identity and how it could affect the main characters. Like Aunt May and Peter having to move in with Happy cause their place wasn't safe anymore. I loved the little cameo with Dum-E, that cute robot from Iron Man movies. I also liked seeing the Arc reactor again.
I thought that was sad when Peter, MJ, and Ned all didn't get into any colleges, especially MIT. But I loved how mad Stephen Strange got when he heard Peter didn't call MIT or figure out a way to plead his case. He's a senior in High school, dr strange what did you expect? :) Even I thought it was hopeless.
Which brings us into the introduction of villains. First off there's Dr. Otto Octavius / Doc. Oc. Alfred Molina does amazing and it was really nostalgic to see him again on screen as Doc Oc. When Sony kept rebooting Spider-Man I never thought I would ever get to see characters share the screen with the next generation of movies.
Seeing Green Goblin again also gave the same goosebumps. As did Dr. Conners, Max Dillon, Sandman. I like that they gave Electro a makeover. I got so excited seeing those characters again. Willem Dafoe did an incredible job at playing the different sides of evil Green Goblin and confused/lost Norman Osborn. It really made you feel for the character.
That's something I loved about this movie. It made you feel for each and every character, including the villains. Things weren't just black and white. This universe's Peter Parker couldn't just send them all to their deaths in their own worlds. Sandman still wanted to get back to his daughter. Electro didn't want to be stuck as a nobody. Doc Oc, Dr. Conners, Norman Osborn, basically all of them still had problems that made them become the villains we all know. It showed us that they were redeemable.
The jokes in the movie was top notch and still in theme with characters.
Green Goblin's twist and betrayal which led to Aunt May's death was heartbreaking. Seeing Tom Holland play Peter Parkers grief was sad to say to least. I shed tears. I really liked her character. She was funny and she was really the heart behind Peter when it came to helping the villains. At first he didn't want to. He was thinking about how everything was on his plate and that it would be easier for them if they went back but I like when she told him no, it would be easier for you not them. Then before she died she said the iconic quote "WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY!" Just when you thought she was going to be ok, WHAMMO...poof she's gone. Poor Peter Parker. Never gets a break.
Which leads us to what I thought was the BEST PART OF THE MOVIE.
Introducing Peter 2 and Peter 3!
I head the rumors that they were going to be in it but I didn't put much faith in them which made me surprised even more when Andrew Garfield showed up. My nerdy self got so excited. There was applause in the movie theater. It was so cool seeing him on screen again. I loved that version of Spider-Man. Who am I kidding, the more Spider-Man the better. Then Toby Maguire comes in and there was even more applause. That's right not one, not two, but three Spider-Man's in the movie.
I loved when Peter 3 (Andrew Garfield) tried to convince MJ, he was a version of Peter by hanging from the ceiling with his hand and her still not buying it and proceeding to throw bread at him. I also loved Ned's grandma (i believe, not sure) asking Peter 3 to grab the cob web from the ceiling for her. I think he's my 2nd favorite Spider-Man/Peter Parker behind Tom Holland's version.
I loved the introduction of Peter 2 (Toby Maguire). He was my first introduction to Spider-Man. He did not disappoint. When they all met with Peter 1, it was nice to see them sharing about their loss. Reminders of previous movies was sad and awesome at the same time.
Seeing their fighting skills together as a team was also great. I was almost crying seeing Peter 3 cry when he cause MJ, finally having redemption since he couldn't catch Gwen. I really get attached to characters.
Some of my favorite quotes (and I have a lot of them)
(Peter 3) "I love you guys." (Peter 1 and 2) "Thanks."
(Peter 1) "I didn't want to brag but I will. I was in the Avengers." (Peter 2) "The Avengers!, that's amazing! What is that?" (Peter 3) "Is that a band?, were you in a band?"
(Peter 3) "I want to fight an alien."
(Peter 3) "I'm lame compared to you guys, I fought this Russian guy in a rhinoceros mechanical suit"
(Electro) "You aint even the sh** anymore." (Peter 3) [puts his head down, defeated]
(Electro) "I just thought Spider-Man would be Black." (Peter 3) "I'm sorry."
(Ned) "So do you have a best friend?" (Peter 2) I did...then he died in my arms after he tried to kill me." (Peter 3) "Dude"
(Peter 3) "You're in a lot of pain huh?" (Peter 2) "Yes I am" (Peter 3) "Yup"
I was so sad when everyone had to forget who was Peter Parker. The goodbye's were heartbreaking. After everything those three have been through seeing how they were going to forget it all made me sad.
And the fact that Peter didn't introduce himself later. I was silently screaming at him on the screen. "JUST TELL THEM!" "NO!!!!!" :)
Also the fact that he couldn't go to high school anymore and seeing him have the textbook for getting his GED. I bet Peter always wanted to graduate with his friends. They talked about moving in together when they went to MIT. Now it's all gone.
I also loved the end credit scenes. Venom and Eddie Brock. Dr. Strange and Wanda in the trailer for the new Dr. Strange movie.
All in all it was one of my favorite movies.
Going to see it again real soon.
